    General Insuring electric dirt bikes

Check into your home owners insurance. If it’s not registered and for recreational use only, your home insurance should cover loss for theft/fire for “toys”. If you’re registering it for street use, and insured for liability, comp, collision, then that would be a standard motorcycle policy. Just...

E-bikes banned at FIM SuperEnduro - - Last minute rule change

There is a more extensive thread on this on the ThumperTalk forum. They like to speculate so I lost interest. The peanut gallery thinks e-bikes burst into flames all the time. E-bikes have their own series in MotoGP so the technology is already demonstrated at the highest level but it’s not a...

Shorai doesn’t have a similar output/size battery? They come with foam padding to help fit the stock battery box.

The old range question and some other weird thing

My EXR does the same thing, sometimes significantly different (a few bars instead of 1), and always lower when turned back on. I have also just eaked out 40 miles on asphalt but with little elevation change.

    Top speed Stark Varg

Does anyone know how fast this mod is/was? Or what 1/4 mile times it was capable of?

    Top speed Stark Varg

The Alta has no problem hitting 88 mph (measured with multiple GPS devices) with 15/48 gearing no tuck required. I haven’t tried taller gear ratios. It would pull 88 MPH going uphill and only go 89 down hill. The limiting factor was motor rpm.

    Anyone Using 16:53 Gear Ratio

I believe 15 is the largest primary sprocket that safely fits. I run 15/48 on my EXR for the street and run 13/53 on dirt. The idea being when I swap wheels the chain adjustment is still pretty similar for the taller street gearing.

    Registration in Wisconsin

I contacted the NHTSA website, informed a very nice lady of the error and 45 minutes later it was corrected on the website! Small wonders!

    Registration in Wisconsin

Seems that NHTSA interpreted enduro as an off-road category but determined SM is dual sport/adventure/on-road. Not sure how they determine that from the submissions from Alta. I’ve got some phone calls to make.

    Registration in Wisconsin

I was just on the NHTSA website plugging in VIN #s for all Alta models. MX, MXR, EX, and EXRs all return a red status as an off road vehicle. “Error Text: 0 - VIN decoded clean. Check Digit (9th position) is correct; 10 - Off-road Vehicle Warning – This is not a vehicle identification number...

    Registration in Wisconsin

@enjoythesilence That’s correspondence from Alta to NHTSA. Can you provide the NHTSA website link to that correspondence? If I contact NHTSA, I’m going to need to direct them to information and show where the discrepancies are. When I enter my VIN information on the NHTSA website it clearly says...

    Registration in Wisconsin

Baraboo is rural. They sent me to Madison. AZ is much like Oregon in that you can declare the bike has all the proper equipment on it and they will issue a plate. It’s your problem if you get ticketed for driving a non compliant vehicle. This is an entirely different situation. The bike came...

    Registration in Wisconsin

Thanks Frank. I hope it doesn’t come down to that. Here’s the rub, it already is legal and has the federal compliance certificate on the frame. It’s a clerical error on a website and up to this point the WI DMV hasn’t been willing to look beyond the NHTSA website. I’m positive this can get...

    Registration in Wisconsin

Has anyone successfully titled and registered an Alta EXR in the state of Wisconsin? If so, what were the hoops you had to jump through? WI won’t register my Alta because it’s classified as a off-highway vehicle on NHTSA website. It was originally titled and registered in AZ. The dealership...

    RXR NHTSA decal?

Alta shuttered the doors a month after I bought it. I’m suspecting something was pending with respect to certification that didn’t get completed. It’s odd that AZ didn’t bring it up, but it was a dealer that submitted the paperwork when I bought it. Also odd that people in Georgia have similar...

    RXR NHTSA decal?

I bought and registered my Alta EXR in Arizona in 2018. I moved to Wisconsin this October and they won’t register it because “ 2019 ALTA VIN #…000114 We received your title and Wisconsin Title and License Plate Application for the above vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic...

1000 Miles On The EXR Today

Nice bike and great write up! I might investigate that light bar. I lived in Houston in the 60’s & 70’s. When I started racing enduro in the mid 70’s, it was with with a club called Trail Riders of Houston (TRH). It appears they still exist. I lived about 5 miles from Rio Bravo motocross track...
