    New PRP Steering Damper

It looks like Scotts may not sell that low mount option anymore. However, seeing your pictures reminded me that the mount is very similar to the mount used by W.E.R. for their steering damper. They use a heim joint rod and a bracket which can be welded, riveted, or bolted to the...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

In case anyone besides me needs to process a 2018 amended return using TurboTax, the software updates for the revised tax regulations have finally been completed.

    Electric clutch

I have found this maneuver to be quite easy and controllable in Map 1 or 2. Much easier than on my KTM. I make it a slower maneuver than on an ICE bike and rely on the enormous low speed torque to lift the front wheel while weighting the back. Just practice some in the open before you're up...

    New PRP Steering Damper

Yep, that is the standard mounting for the Showa and that's the way I have seen them on the Baja race bikes. A disadvantage of that mounting location is that it is impossible to adjust while riding the way you can with the Scotts, Ohlins, and PRP models. I suspect that is more of a potential...

    New PRP Steering Damper

Has anyone ridden with a Showa/Honda/Ride Engineering damper? I looked at this a while back thinking it might be easier to modify or build a mount for this than a Scotts damper. It seems to be mostly targeted for MX but they sell the 24mm version for offroad. Some of the Baja racers use...

    New PRP Steering Damper

Correct. High speed and low speed are defined by the angular speed that the handlebars are turning. The other advantage of the Scotts offroad damper design when riding in the woods (vs. MX) is that it has reduced resistance returning to center in the low speed damping. (BTW, the Scotts...

    New PRP Steering Damper

I tried it for part of a day after reading some of the earlier posts here. I reset it in the afternoon. I understand how and why it can be a reasonable substitute on a MX track, however it doesn't do what I want on tight singletrack. The idea of a good damper in the woods is that it has...

    New PRP Steering Damper

gprix1 machined a new steering stem nut to adapt an Öhlins damper a couple of years ago. Here's the link: Ohlins steering damper fits nicely I haven't owned an Öhlins damper on a dirt bike but that may be the way to go. It is the only ALTA installation I know about. The challenge with the...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

The MX would not be eligible according to the tax regs (manufactured primarily for use on public streets). The IRS may or may not know the difference. However, I would expect your accountant to ask that question and provide some guidance if he/she is named as the preparer on the amended...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

In case anyone else is waiting to use TurboTax 2018 to file an amended return, I received an email today from their developers stating that the projected date for the 2018 program updates has pushed to mid-May.

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

As I understand it your purchase qualified for the credit even before Congress changed the tax law in December 2019 to extend the eligible period. The original regulations went through 12/31/2017 so you should be able to file an amended return for tax year 2017. This assumes you paid...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

IRS tax regs changed in December 2019 to provide the credit for 2018 purchases, however 2018 TurboTax even with the latest updates does not include that change. You file for the credit in the year you placed the vehicle in service so if you bought your EX/EXR/SM in 2019 the 2019 version of...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

Hey @VINSANITY which version of TurboTax are you using? I tried to enter the ALTA into an amended 2018 return and it tells me that my ALTA is not eligible because it was purchased after 12/31/2017. It seems that TT hasn't updated to match the new tax regs. I have downloaded all of the...

    Retroactive E-motorcycle Federal Tax Credit

Correct, regardless of the tax year or vehicle year, you need to be the original owner and you file for the credit in the year you bought the bike. The actual wording in the tax form is that you file in the year you "placed the vehicle in service".

@Slayer, Any response from the IRS on the amended 2018 return? I am getting ready to go through that process for my EXR purchased in 2018. Thanks.

    Jeff Walker rode my EXR!

The Jeff Walker ride video is great. And the vast majority of the comments on YT are surprisingly positive. I have found that the most vocal naysayers are people who have never actually ridden an ALTA.
