The day started off at a brisk 28 degrees, frost covering the ground. Every stick of wood used to make the Extreme Section was as slick as ice, hard to walk on it without wiping out. For the season finale, the extreme section sported a jersey barrier! Thankfully, the organizers provided a go around for the barrier, but all in all, the extreme was SO extreme that it added about 20 seconds to your time vs taking the "Easy" section.

And of course, there's the famous Southwick track! All sand. As deep as it gets. This was my first time at Southwick when it hasn't been raining or the track soupy. But still, there's a technique to riding in deep wet sand, which I'm stilling learning, but the "more throttle the better' adage seems apply here!

Here are some pictures from Sunday. I'll link some video of the extreme section when I get them up on YouTube.

Hope to do that race next year. Did you use your Alta? If so, which model and did the cold effect the bike?
Alta's aren't bothered by temps into the 20s, I just finished the 24hrs of starvation ridge and we had night temps in the 20s, with no loss of performance.

Hope that answers your questions about cold.

I have a '17 MX. I'd say that the bikes are fine down to the 20s. As the cells warm up from use, their fine. If the bike cold soaks, it does take some time to get to full power.

The J Day events are well suited to the Altas. There are three of us doing the events now. Let me know if decided to try one!
