LED light options

Hi all.

Wondering if anyone has experience with changing out EX/SM incandescents for LEDs. I saw the Motominded Rigid S2 headlight option which looks good, but I'm also wondering about turn signal and tail light options. Can the stock bulbs be replaced with LED bulbs without causing fast blinking? What about lower profile options? (I read that thread about the New Rage Cycles LEDs but I'm not a fan of the look.)

Finally, are there any auxiliary power connectors in the wiring harness? If not, does anyone know the connector spec for making up pigtails?

Thanks!

Guess no one has tried this. I ordered some LED blinkers and will give it a try. There is an Acerbis LED tail light on Revzilla that looks like it could work as well.

I asked my tech why LED headlight isn’t oem, and he said finding a DOT certified bulb is near impossible. The liabilities for a manufacturer are probably huge, making them cost prohibitive.

Interesting. The LED blinkers I ordered didn't work...they were had a single stud design, not the oval base with offset set screw the SM blinkers use.

Polisport has a DOT Halo light assembly now, which looks very similar to the Alta mask, so maybe it would work.

I sent my EXR mask to Decal Works to make a preprint and when they recieved it, they told me its a Polisport part and they already have the dimensions.
My guess is that one isnt DOT approved, but I dont have a problem with that, I just want better lighting.

I was wondering the same thing about U.S. DOT certification since the Amazon link only mentions Europe (ECE approval). However, if you go to the actual Polisport website it does state that the Halo LED light is fully street legal in the U.S. It also looks like the mounting locations are identical to the ALTA EX/EXR mask.
Polisport Website said:
DESCRIPTION
On this version, the headlight includes a Long-lasting LED bulb with a powerful light output (passing beam:508 lumens; Driving beam:1007 lumens). This version is completely homologated by ECE and DOT standards, making it road legal in Europe and USA. The new LED bulb is stable, providing cool with light for an optimal brightness. You can have the HALO LED in all brand colors, black and white.

I gave the Zeta handguards with LED blinkers in them a try. No luck so far. I tried a few different resisters that @rayivers had recommended might work but no luck. I don't know anything about electrical though so don't have much to go on, my best idea to try next is knowing that they work fine if the stock lights are wired up, maybe I can measure the resistance of the stock blinkers and emulate it, or worst case, maybe I wire the stock blinkers up inline (or in parallel?) and just hide them somewhere out of the way.

Im also electrically challenged, but the front LED signals from NRC worked for me without a resistor for the fronts. However I did install and test them before the rears, so maybe with the oem rears still in place thats why they worked?

I have the NRC fronts on my SM (and the rear too) and they work fine. Not sure if NRC added a resistor or something to make them work? Works case I could use them on my EXR but it sure would be nice to just use the ones I already have on my handguards.

I know at some point they did start adding resistors, but dunno when. I think I have an extra from NRC, if you want it let me know and Ill throw it in the mail.

I installed the PoliSport Lookos 12v LED headlight on the MX to use for an upcoming camping trip. It has wires for brake, turns and tail lights built into the wiring harness. My step son just installed some LED turn signals that have the flasher built into them, just supply 12v to them and they flash. Solves the LED flasher issues.

I really like the look. And it looks like it was made to fit the MX.

Is this a small solar panel? Cool.
