I need a number plate for my MX.
I’d like to know what it would cost and how much space it would take up for the tooling if they’re looking to get rid of it. We can’t let that go to waste.

I’d like to have spare skid plates and beavertails. The inserts popping out don’t bother me much. I just push a little bit bigger one in there and it holds up pretty good.

Hi Jeff, welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the time.

Given the situation with Liquid Performance and the huge inventory of plastic they have, I think the only way we could generate any interest in doing a short run order is if Acerbis would do an alternative color and we (the forum members) could agree on said color as a "limited and probably never again" Alta Owner Forum plastic group buy or something along those lines. However getting everyone to agree on something might be easier said then done, and there would need to be some details on the dollars and cents before people would likely sign on. A lot of logistical issues would have to be sorted out, but I can certainly start a poll to see what interest we have in the idea if those things sound reasonable.

I think there may be interest in a special run if black plastics

Agreed. Probably only color enough people would agree on. Black shrouds and a black rear fender would probably be all that would be reasonable to do. We don’t need front fenders or number plates and subframes would be too expensive to do in a short run.

I agree but would recommend side number plates in black as well.

Left & Right Shrouds - Black
Left & Right Number Plates - Black
Rear Fender - Black

Are the number plates the same for MX's and MXR's? I'd sell my number plate (MXR) if it will fit.

2009 CRF 450 front fender and number plate comes stock on the MX/MXR (just different colors, obviously). I think most CRF front fenders and number plates from 2009+ used the same mounting style as well.

Riiiight...so the brass insert is heat staked into the plastic (which already does not have alot of surface area). Be aware that most owners do not hit the recommended 1ish NM for the torque...most probably the good old German technique of "guudentight" which leads to the wonderful destruction of the the inserts. Also forgetting the compression limiters leads to loose inserts...if anything slightly changing the hardware would be a more cost effective change than effectively destroying the tooling.

No offense, the plastic from Acerbis was a PITA. A "change" warrants an orly....

my issues with them is if you ride the bike hard, the rear tire hits the fender and breaks the plastic, thus ripping out the inserts, its a weird design imo also i wish they did a handle or 2 on the sub frame. I have plastic welded, and epoxied. mine but im not sure how long thatll last.

I see what you mean by hitting the fender. A brace on the underside could help with reinforcement, not so much on the tire hitting problem. Few people have drilled into the topside of the fender to install moose racing straps (I believe the store from Alta used to sell them).

They will pull out again unfortunately. Only thing that has held up for me is actually removing the insert completely, filling the cavity with an epoxy and then drilling for a coarse self tapping screw very similar to the ones used to secure the brake line in the front fork guard.

i did a quick scan and quick cutout(if i was going to actually make it, i would have put time in designing them lol) but thats to show the idea of handles that i wish they did to move the bike or for tricks.(but if the number plates are removed there is a good spot to grab on ether side.

My 2019 EX with 1200 miles on mostly dirt singletrack had lose sounds coming from the rear fender plastics. Turns out it was just what my buddy Rashid said. The plastics are wallowing out in a couple of inserts Was wondering if anyone tied to insert them again with epoxy or some other adhesive?

I have the same bike that HAD the same problems. Do as @snydes suggests above and you'll be better than new. I actually didn't fill the old holes, just drilled through then used some KTM radiator screws and it's been holding well.
