An Open Petition to Alta to let us create our own maps (and to modify Map 3)

Do you want to be able to adjust your riding maps?

  • Yes, I want to try to make the maps better for my riding style.

  • No, Alta should not allow me to do it.

  • My gas bike does not have 4 maps.

Just check the version of the firmware on your bikes. I mean if that’s possible? Not sure it is, I have a thousand dollar wheelchair that has an iPhone app with remote driving (to bring it to where you are when you can’t walk to the chari), control of the steering and accelleration rates, and full details on battery and motor. As a geek I was a bit taken aback by how little info I get on the Alta built-in computer but maybe functionality will be added there some day?

so now that i have better springs in my mx and can somewhat ride it like an mx bike now Ive noticed something that i dont like i felt it before climbing a sand moutain but i though that was traction control. if your cruising and full throttle on my mx it seems to sign off(or feel like a dead throttle) and slowly ramp up and then tapers off at 70 ish mph(I want it to pull till the speed limit it has), which i would like it like a gas bike that pulls all the way to the end of the rpm. which id hope I could do with custom maps .

Did you try Map 4? If you like the power of Map 4, but do not like it being too jerky, then just gear up your bike. Shift it into a 2nd gear.

I really haven't tried it in the range im talking about. just on a few jumps, ill have to next time i ride to see. i like map 3 but i want more engine brake also lol. but 1-3 all does what im talking about just 1st does it sooner than 2-3.

Absolutely need! This is a must have!
Feedback from Alta: all current models do not have wifi or Bluetooth onboard (targeting for 2020 models). I'm guessing the center map button and future screen menus should provide more than enough functionality.

BTW, I'd dump map4 and play with the regen braking.

Sally the wifey has a Whill electric wheelchair that is crazy to drive in map 4, especially with an iPhone. Just say’n.

I ride the Alta in map 3 pretty exclusively. Just trails though.

so i finally got aroud to go riding and try map 4, and you were right map 4 makes it a whole new bike. I just though it would eat the battery faster, but on my ride today mostly in map 4 i actually got better battery life i was surprised, it did limit it after 10 miles from the heat but went away pretty quick and then i was overheated by 15 miles lol 110 degree heat. but my goggles overheated also so my video didnt save ether. but thanks ill probably leave it in map 4 now. I'd just like a little more engine braking in map 4.

My experience has been as long as you have control of your right hand and not constantly blowing off the rear tire, than any differences in range is minor. I pretty much use 4 all the time now unless there is a low traction situation.

A partial solution for the MX/R and EX/R guys is to upload the SM maps to their bikes.

I had these maps for some reason on my EX before I updated it -
The regen braking on map 4 is extremely hard, and the difference in power delivery between maps is much more noticable than on the off road models. You may like it.

I still have those on my EX and love it. Loosing the regen difference is the only reason I haven't updated my FW. I spend virtually all my time riding in either map 1, going uphill, off road in slick material, or map 3 basically all other riding. I control both my acceleration and the amount of regen with my right wrist.

I wonder how much more sales/interest would have been generated if Alta had allowed users to modify maps. Also as a by-product, it would have certainly increased their parts sales from owner's crashing their ridiculously modded bikes.

I will not talk to the aspect of that interest as it has been hinted before in the forums. But in my past engineering exp with Zero the number of owners who got access to the firmware parameters in the BMS and the MBB (similar to the BCU and ACM respectively) ended up bricking those expensive components or had to get complete re-flashes of firmware from there dealer or Zero. Now there are pros and cons to the capability of that for the owner, but the biggest one which has been Zero's MO has been - touch firmware = warranty toast/support toast.

Unfortunately my EXR had the throttle fault that made it almost unrideable... Had to upgrade to the latest EXR firmware to solve that.

Gotta be careful with things like Reverse. Inexperienced drivers can abuse it accidentally. Kinda like the novice driver that gets into a car with an automatic transmission for the first time. First, they shift to (L)eap for a good fast start, then they shift to (D)rag for excellent acceleration. The problems usually start when they reach 100 mph and try to shift to (R)ace.

The R bikes never had that version of the firmware, so you didn't lose any cool feature. Mine had the same throttle issue at the dealer, they upgraded the bike before I took it home.
