Changing Maps with Dealer laptop?

Hi Alta Programmers, is it possible to change the programming of the MAPs with the dealer laptop? I will get one in a few weeks! Is there mor possible than only firmware? I want for example mor recuperation if possible to get closer to 450 engine braking momentum, especially for Supermotodrifts into the turns! Cheers WW

What's your source for the laptop? Folks on this site have been looking for one ever since they were announced with no luck. Just curious if the market will soon be flooded with ex-dealer laptops . . . .

Let me say up front, I am not a programmer so what I say here may make no sense. Simple case of typing myself smart. Can we change the file name of an already created firmware for a SM, to the firmware file name for an EX, and then uploaded it into a EX or any other combination you can think of? The early versions of the EX had a firmware version that was closer to an SM with stronger regen in map 3 & 4 than later versions of the EX. Both @Oded and I have discussed that in this thread. Oded updated his firmware and lost the stronger regen. I kept my original firmware, so I have the stronger regen, but can't take advantage of the any refinements Alta made in the firmware. When Alta had control, uploading the firmware for a SM in an EX was a no go. Now that Alta is no longer in control, I am wondering if that is still the situation. If we change the SM firmware file name to what the program is looking for in an EX, will it load? I can't think of a hardware reason you couldn't put the firmware from any non R bike (MX, EX, SM) in another non R bike. The only downside I see is that speedometer may be off due to different tire sizes, but that is pretty insignificant in my view. Any ideas or comments.

Easier option is to update the inverter firmware specifically from a SM to an EX. MT can target specific components of the vehicle. Plus out of all the FW updating the inverter is the longest (and likeliest to break) to update.

Thanks for the help. Just to make sure I understand. If I updated my inverter to where it thinks it is a SM, which is doable with multitool, the bike will then look for the SM firmware and automatically update to that?

I still need to look at the MT that out in the wild but its based on the vehicle type. If it detects its a MX = MX firmware and such. If you individually target certain components with FW and then restart MT after updating it will ask for an update. The MT we used was the .T version which was more for production and technicians. The engineering version is able to do more manual updating.

Anyone else get a laptop for the Alta? I wasn't able to get one, but would still be interested in looking at the firmware files if someone uploads them where I can get to them. Might be able to disassemble them and learn something useful even without full source code.

Is there any other software on the dealer laptop other than the Multitool Sofware? Would there be any other advantage to having a dealer laptop then?

There is no real advantage. MT was optimized for the Lenovo laptops we had. (Zero did the same way back in the day with Asus Laptops).

At this point a dealer laptop is only worth what a used laptop goes for, and if there is a dongle, that would cost you roughly $200 to put together. So base your values from that.
